In the domestic rice market, rice prices of all types tend to decrease. Accordingly, in Dong Thap and An Giang, the price of raw rice OM 5451 and IR 504 decreased slightly, making it difficult for warehouses to buy beautiful rice. Sticky rice prices also recorded a downward trend compared to last week. Particularly in Tien Giang, rice prices of all types remain stable.
At retail markets in An Giang province, rice prices are stable and do not fluctuate. Among them, sticky rice costs 16,000 – 20,000 VND/kg; Regular rice is priced at 12,500 – 14,000 VND/kg, Nang Nhen rice is priced at 23,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice ranges from 18,000 – 20,000 VND/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice at 16,000 – 18,500 VND/kg; Huong Lai 19,500 VND/kg; Common white rice 15,500 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 19,000 VND/kg; Soc rice usually costs 16,500 – 17,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice 18,500 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice 22,000 VND/kg…
In the rice export market, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), export rice prices remain stable. Accordingly, the export price of 5% broken rice is at 628 USD/ton; 25% broken rice at 613 USD/ton.
Mr. Phan Van Co, Marketing Director of Vrice Co., Ltd. predicts that this downward trend in export rice prices will last until the end of September 2023. Because rice is a short-term crop, in only about 3 months a new crop begins. The provinces grow rice alternately, so the harvest will be regular. That means our input is not lacking.
Second, there is pressure from importers. Although they have a real need, the price of exported rice is too high, so they are willing to switch to other alternative foods such as wheat, barley…
Third, India can lift the rice export ban at any time. Therefore, if any business has the attitude of hoarding goods and waiting for prices to increase, they will face the risk of huge losses.
