Explaining the cause of the decline in rice prices, Mr. Pham Thai Binh – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trung An High-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company – said that the Philippines imposing a ceiling on domestic rice retail prices aims to stabilize rice prices. Avoid manipulation and speculation when retail prices increase at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, the Philippines is currently the world’s largest rice importer, so the ceiling price is much lower than the world rice price, meaning it is difficult for countries to export to this market due to price differences.

On the positive side, the decrease in export rice prices will help businesses have easier access to importers. But Mr. Binh said that the worrying thing is that the current price of rice in the domestic market is still too high, making businesses not dare to buy it because of the risk of loss.
